Cea mai mare cantitate de melatonin\u0103 este secretat\u0103 \u00een primii ani de via\u021b\u0103, dup\u0103 care scade, pe m\u0103sur\u0103 ce \u00eenaint\u0103m \u00een v\u00e2rst\u0103.<\/p>\n<p>Pe l\u00e2ng\u0103 factorii de risc care duc la apari\u0163ia diabetului de tip 2 (precum obezitatea, istoricul familial, o diet\u0103 precar\u0103 \u015fi sedentarismul), oamenii de \u015ftiin\u0163\u0103 au descoperit un alt \u201evinovat\u201c: nivelul sc\u0103zut de melatonin\u0103. <strong>S-a observat pe durata unui studiu de 12 ani c\u0103 femeile care nu s-au \u00eemboln\u0103vit de diabet aveau un nivel mai ridicat ale acestui hormon.<\/strong> Cercet\u0103torii au ajuns la concluzia c\u0103 secre\u0163ia sc\u0103zut\u0103 de melatonin\u0103 aproape c\u0103 dubleaz\u0103 riscul de diabet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Combate insomnia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Odat\u0103 cu \u00eenaintarea \u00een v\u00e2rst\u0103, unele persoane au nevoie de melatonin\u0103 pentru a se bucura de un somn mai bun. Numeroase studii au ar\u0103tat c\u0103 administrarea suplimentelor cu melatonin\u0103 cu 30-60 de minute \u00eenainte de culcare combate insomnia \u0219i \u00eembun\u0103t\u0103\u021be\u0219te calitatea somnului. Este un supliment potrivit \u0219i celor care se trezesc des noaptea \u0219i celor care adorm greu. De pild\u0103, pacien\u0163ii cu migrene c\u0103rora li s-au administrat 3 mg de melatonin\u0103 \u00een fiecare sear\u0103, cu 30 de minute \u00eenainte de culcare, au spus dup\u0103 3 luni de tratament c\u0103 frecven\u0163a durerilor s-a redus la jum\u0103tate, iar durata lor s-a scurtat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ofer\u0103 protec\u0163ie cardiovascular\u0103<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hormonul secretat de epifiz\u0103 este un aliat care are grij\u0103 \u015fi de s\u0103n\u0103tatea sistemului cardiovascular. Cercet\u0103torii spanioli au m\u0103surat nivelul melatoninei din timpul nop\u0163ii la pacien\u0163ii care au suferit un atac de cord \u015fi apoi i-au monitorizat 6 luni. De exemplu, la pacien\u0163ii cu degenerescen\u0163\u0103 macular\u0103 (c\u0103rora li s-a administrat melatonin\u0103 \u00eenainte de culcare, timp de 3 p\u00e2n\u0103 la 6 luni) acuitatea vizual\u0103 a r\u0103mas stabil\u0103, iar deteriorarea retinei a fost mai mic\u0103.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amelioreaz\u0103 sindromul premenstrual<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Un nivel sc\u0103zut al melatoninei favorizeaz\u0103 tulburarea disforic\u0103 premenstrual\u0103. Aceasta este o form\u0103 sever\u0103 a sindromului premenstrual \u015fi afecteaz\u0103 un procent mic de persoane. Femeile care sufer\u0103 de aceast\u0103 tulburare au o sc\u0103dere drastic\u0103 \u00een ceea ce prive\u015fte nivelul de melatonin\u0103 \u00een a doua jum\u0103tate a ciclului menstrual, atunci c\u00e2nd progesteronul este la cel mai \u00eenalt nivel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Limiteaz\u0103 cre\u015fterea tumorilor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00cen studii de laborator s-a demonstrat c\u0103 melatonina limiteaz\u0103 progresia cancerului mamar. Este, totodat\u0103, dovedit faptul c\u0103 melatonina inhib\u0103 proliferarea \u015fi cre\u015fterea celulelor neoplazice, iar efectul s\u0103u antioxidant reduce semnificativ reac\u0163iile adverse ale chimioterapiei, fiind astfel identificat un poten\u0163ial rol adjuvant \u00een tratamentul antitumoral.
